About the Role

Rotherwood Cares are currently recruiting Youth Support Workers to join a supported accommodation service in Oldham, supporting young people aged 16-18 as they transition into independent living.

This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced support workers who are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people. You'll play a vital role in helping them build confidence, develop essential life skills and work towards a brighter future.

The Role

As a Support Worker, you will provide high-quality support to both male and female young people with a range of complex needs. The young people you support may present with challenging behaviours, mental health needs, emotional trauma and a history of absconding, so you'll need to remain calm, resilient and consistent in your approach.

We're looking for someone who is firm but fair—able to build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries, following safeguarding procedures and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every young person.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centred support to young people aged 16-18.
  • Build positive, professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Promote independence by supporting daily living skills.
  • Encourage engagement with education, training and employment.
  • Support young people with their emotional wellbeing and mental health.
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using positive approaches.
  • Follow safeguarding, missing from home and absconding procedures.
  • Maintain a safe environment by adhering to fire safety and health and safety policies.
  • Complete accurate daily logs, incident reports and handovers.
  • Support young people to attend appointments and access community services.
  • Work collaboratively with social workers, education providers and other professionals.
  • Follow care plans, risk assessments and organisational policies.
  • Promote equality, respect and positive outcomes for all young people.
  • Help create a safe, stable and nurturing home environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Essential: Experience supporting young people aged 16-18.
  • Experience working with challenging behaviour, trauma and mental health.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding children and young people.
  • Ability to remain calm and confident in challenging situations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexible approach to working shifts, including weekends where required.
  • A caring, resilient and reliable attitude.

What's on Offer

  • £12.71 per hour.
  • Full-time, part-time and ad hoc opportunities available.
  • Permanent positions available.
  • Ongoing training and development.
  • Supportive management team.
  • Opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.

If you're an experienced Support Worker looking for your next opportunity and want to help young people achieve independence and reach their potential, we'd love to hear from you.
